Scotiabank Continues Cricket Connection with CPL

The Official Bank of West Indies Cricket Signs On as Sponsor of Caribbean Premier League

Barbados, August 2013 – Kiddy Cricket sponsor Scotiabank has deepened its connection with the Caribbean’s favourite sport by becoming an official partner of the Caribbean Premier League. Since the sponsorship was announced, the Bank has thrown itself into the “biggest party in sport”, spreading the festive CPL spirit through various appearances and activities.

In Barbados, the opening ceremony was given a Kiddy Cricket flavour as two players from St. Paul’s Primary, the winners of the 2013 Kiddy Cricket Festival, had the honour of escorting the CPL trophy on and off the field. Outgoing captain Justin Bramao and rising young star Elijah Greenidge were all smiles as they headed to the middle with the massive trophy.

Pascal Gajraj, the new Director and Group Lead for Corporate & Commercial Banking for Caribbean East, also got into the spirit of the CPL season when he visited Kensington Oval to meet members of the local franchise, the Barbados Tridents. Gajraj emphasized Scotiabank’s excitement at being part of the CPL, saying:

“Cricket is integral to Caribbean culture. We’ve been involved for a long time at the youth level and several of our players have graduated to playing for their senior teams. Our sponsorship of the Limacol Caribbean Premier League allows us to take our support of cricket to the next level.”

The excitement continued last Friday when Scotiabank took the CPL party to its flagship Broad Street branch by surprising customers in the bank with a ticket giveaway. Six lucky customers won tickets by correctly answering trivia questions about the CPL matches and the Barbados Tridents.

Scotiabank Senior Marketing Manager Lisa Cole said the Bank wanted to make sure that as many people as possible got the chance to experience the CPL atmosphere which is why their activities targeted customers, staff and Kiddy Cricketers.

“Scotiabank is committed to spreading the love of cricket far and wide which is why over the last 14 years, more than 400,000 students in 720 Caribbean primary schools have been part of the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket program. That’s a pretty wide reach and our partnership with the CPL allows us to go even further in championing cricket in the region.”
