Scotiabank has been part of the Caribbean and Central America region since 1889. We opened our first office in Kingston, Jamaica to support the thriving trade of rum, sugar and fish. Our Kingston branch was the first Canadian bank office to open outside the U.K. or the U.S. In fact, we opened our first branch in Kingston before our branch in Toronto, Canada, where our executive offices are now located.
More than a century later, Scotiabank is the leading bank in the Caribbean and Central America, with operations in 25 countries, including affiliates. We’re also the only Canadian bank with operations in four of the seven Central American countries — Costa Rica, Belize, Panama, and El Salvador.
