FAQs for ScotiaCard™ Mastercard Debit now equipped with Chip and PIN Technology PLUS Tap and Go.
The ScotiaCard™ with Mastercard Debit is an enhanced version of the existing ScotiaCard™ that allows you to access funds in your account to make purchases anywhere Mastercard is accepted. Now that you’re a part of Mastercard's worldwide network, you’ll enjoy greater security and access.
Your ScotiaCard™ Mastercard Debit can be used at any Scotiabank or Cirrus ATM or Point of Sale machine.
Your ScotiaCard™ can be used to shop online, and when it's safe to travel again, you can use it anywhere in the world where Mastercard is accepted.
Your NEW ScotiaCardTM Mastercard Debit is on its way. Your card will be mailed to the address linked to your account. There is no need for you to come into the branch to collect your NEW card.
Once you receive your new card, you can activate it using your existing PIN at any Scotiabank or Cirrus ATM. There is no need to come into the branch to activate your card.
If you already collected and activated your ScotiaCard™ Mastercard DEBIT, when you visited a branch, make sure to destroy the one you receive in the mail.
Note: Be sure to peel off the clear glue stuck at the back of your card before inserting into the ATM.
- Insert the ScotiaCard™ Mastercard DEBIT in the Point of Sale device and keep it in the device to enable authorization.
- Follow the prompts on the screen and enter the PIN to verify the transaction.
- When the transaction is complete, you'll be prompted to remove the card and wait for the receipt.
Things to Know:
- Register and use Scotia OnLine Banking or the Scotia Caribbean App and get real time messages about all of your account activity with Transaction Alerts, Security Alerts and Credit Card Controls. Set up Scotiabank Alerts today.
- Funds are automatically deducted from your designated account.
- You must have funds in your deposit account to cover cost of your purchase(s).
One of the changes made with the switch from CARIF to Mastercard is that you will no longer have the option to select chequing or saving.
If you have both a chequing and saving account attached to your NEW ScotiaCard™ Mastercard DEBIT, all purchases will automatically be withdrawn from your chequing account. If you’re used to making everyday purchases from your savings account here are your options:-
- You can log in to Scotia OnLine Banking or the Scotia Caribbean App and transfer funds from your savings account to your chequing account. This will ensure you are using a day-to-day chequing account for your everyday purchases and allow you more control over your savings.
OR
- If you wish to continue using your savings account for your every day purchases, you can call 246-426-7000 and request that your savings account be made the primary account on your NEW card. Alternately, you may visit the branch closest to you to request that your primary account be changed from chequing to savings.
ScotiaCard™ is now a Mastercard Debit Card that you can use wherever Mastercard is accepted.
Cirrus is the name of a network of ATMs affiliated with Mastercard, whereas Plus is Visa's network. Thanks to this partnership, you’ll have access to over one million ATMs across the world. Just look for a Mastercard or Cirrus logo on the machine.
As part of Scotiabank’s digital focus and with the increased need for protection against fraud, we're going the extra mile to protect our customers. The ScotiaCard™ Mastercard DEBIT, now equipped with Chip and PIN Technology PLUS Tap and Go, helps to provide added security against counterfeit purchases or the use of lost and stolen cards. It puts you in control with enhanced security.
The CVV2 number is the three digits you can find on the back of your card. You may be asked to provide this number as a security measure when shopping online to confirm that you are in possession of the card. This is a precaution to avoid any fraudulent usage.
Now that we’ve added the most enhanced protection possible using Chip and PIN technology, your card is valid until the month printed on the card. Once you’re close to the time when your new ScotiaCard™ Mastercard Debit expires, you’ll be issued a new one.
Even though you can use the card wherever Mastercard is accepted, the funds must be available in your designated primary account to cover the cost of your purchases. Unlike a credit card, it’s not possible to defer your payments until later.
Yes. To protect you against fraudulent use of the card, we have imposed a daily limit.

Once you activate the NEW ScotiaCardTM you'd need to use the new number on the face of the card with your existing password in order to log in. Once you log in, you may update your password right away or leave it as is. As an active online banking user, the option to update your password is always available.
Note: if you did not activate your NEW card, your old log in credentials remain the same.
When you open a deposit account, you will automatically receive one.
If you and your spouse are joint account holders, then he/she is eligible for the new ScotiaCard™ Mastercard Debit.
If you received your card before your spouse, don't worry the other one is on it's way. All cards were not mailed at the same time, so you may receive it at different times.

You're NEW ScotiaCard™ Mastercard Debit is completely FREE of charge.
If you tried using the Tap & Go function on your NEW card and were unsuccessful, please remember that the maixmum tap amount is BBD$100. If your purchase is over BBD$100 and you received a "declined" message on the Point of Sale machine, you will have to insert your card and enter your PIN to verify your transaction.
